What Sports Do You Play?

Nearly eight million students currently participate in high school athletics in the United States.  Almost a half-million compete as NCAA athletes, but only a minor fraction within each sport move on to compete at the professional or Olympic level.

High School: Students have many extracurricular activities to choose from, such as sports, music, clubs, and student council. Nearly 40 percent of high school students enroll in music programs
College.

College:
Among the arts disciplines, visual art has the greatest percentage of enrollment at 71.1% (281,465 students) followed by music at 66% (255,372 students), the theater at 3.9% (13,749 students), and dance at 1.6% (7,202 students).
Schools that have music programs have significantly higher attendance rates than do those without programs (93.3) percent as compared to 84.9 percent).
Overall a little over 7% of high school athletes (about 1 in 13) go on to play a varsity sport in college and less than 2% of high school athletes (1 in 57) go on to play at NCAA Division I schools

State of the Arts: One million public school students participate in Arts Education. 96% of Elementary School, 89% Middle School and 50% of High School Students are actively participating in the arts.
